Toyota FT HS - 704th Edition
The Toyota FT-HS is a hybrid sports car concept introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. Calty Design Research designed the concept and suggests that it could fill the place of the Toyota Supra. FT-HS stands for Future Toyota Hybrid Sport.
The goal of the rear wheel drive hybrid powertrain is to produce 400 horsepower (300 kW) and achieve 0-60 mph in around 4 seconds. This is accomplished by combining a 3.5 L V6 and an electric motor in a manner similar to the Lexus GS450h. Unlike the GS (and virtually all other current hybrids), a production version of the FT-HS would make use of a capacitor system designed specifically for quick charging and increased performance. Since the debut of this concept, Toyota has exhibited such technology in the Supra HV-R race car. The 2+2 vehicle features a unique retractable roof similar to a targa top. The rear seats appear to be unusable when the roof is retracted however. In spite of the FT-HS being only a concept vehicle, Toyota’s desired starting price for such a vehicle is stated to be in the mid $30,000 range.

UAE: World’s Biggest Market for Rolls Royce Cars
UAE has gradually evolved as the biggest market for Rolls Royce cars across the world, leaving behind Dubai and Beijing in terms of sales last year. Dubai and Abu Dhabi dealerships of Rolls Royce has achieved the second highest and the highest sales respectively, according to Frank Tiemann, The communication manager, Rolls Royce for the Middle East and Europe. Beijing and London followed at the third position, and Beverly Hills in the United States followed at the fourth place. “This is a very impressive development for Abu Dhabi,” said Mr. Tiemann yesterday. “It has been top five for the past three years.”
Sales, on the whole rose in the Middle East by 48 percent last year, up from 40 per cent in 2007, he mentioned. Phantom was the most famous and the sought after model of Rolls Royce for the buyers in Emirates last year which costs around Dh1.46 million equals to US$400,000, is a four door limousine and all this in a package that does not contain any customized features, according to Mr. Tiemann.
Throughout the world, Dubai and Abu Dhabi had the range of requests for customization from the requests related to colors or exclusively positioned buttons and knobs, he said. “In the UAE, each single car was a bespoke Phantom, which can easily double the cost,” he also mentioned. Tiemann did not mention what count of Rolls Royces has been sold in Dubai or Abu Dhabi- which throughout the Emirates, happen to be the only two dealerships- but mentioned that the numbers were in the range of three digits last year. He also said that the numbers were in the range of three digits in 2007 as well, with the dealership rankings of Abu Dhabi being the second-best in sales and Dubai holding the fifth rank.
According to Tiemann, the increase in sales in the Emirates evolved from the increasing growth of wealth in the region. “The sales shares we see in the different regions are based on the allocation of wealth around the globe,” he said. “There is no secret of success from my point of view.” The latest car dealer to announce growth in sales last year throughout the Middle East is Rolls Royce, which is an incredible achievement as the whole last year was crunched in the global slump.
Toyota recently dethroned General Motors (GM), and has emerged as the global top-selling car maker, underwent an increase of 19 per cent in sales last year here. General Motors sold a record 144,485 cars last year across the Middle East. Mercedes- Benz witnessed a sales growth similar to GM, delivering a record of 19070 vehicles, up by 13 per cent from the previous year. The German collaboration delivered 2,959 cars in Abu Dhabi, exhibiting an 18 percent increase from last two years. Mercedes- Benz, in Dubai delivered 4,792 cars, which resulted in an increase of 12.8 per cent from the sales in the previous year. However, dealers have reported that the sales have shown a slowdown in the past few months because of difficult requirements for financing of cars including a higher minimum salary and greater minimum rates of interests.
“Considering the current market conditions, some of the [luxury] brands are likely to see lower growth rates or even negative sales in 2009,” he said. “Purchase of such cars does not just depend on the need, but on a whole host of factors, which include even factors like the exchange rate of the currency. Currently, customers are definitely more cautious about their purchases.” Tiemann said Rolls-Royce had not been immune to the effects of the economic slowdown in all regions and “sales have been suffering a bit”. He said it was premature to make predictions for the current year, but the company was well into a position in the region. “The Middle East made a tremendous result [in 2008], and stands for nearly 20 per cent of the worldwide figures,” he said. “We’ve got a very solid basis to looking into the future.” – The National. Dubai benefits from an influx of huge numbers of cheap holidays enthusiasts and Dubai holidays rank amongst the top destinations in the world. No wonder people want to spend their money in acquiring expensive cars in plaes like Dubai.

Lexus LF-A Roadster Concept
With supercar good-looks, the V10 LF-A has methodically marched from concept, to prototype, to imminent-super-secret production model, to endangered species list. The main hurdle seems to be the $225,000 cost which Toyota views as prohibitively expensive and unprofitable. Which is a cop-out of course. Regardless of the economy, there seems to always be an inexhaustible flow of wealthy buyers IF you have something worthy of their attention. The real question is whether Lexus is ready to produce a supercar.
Though Toyota maintains that the LF-A will remain only a development platform they are certainly parading it around like the next big thing, including a sighting by myself at the U.S. Open a couple of weeks ago. The “F” logo, located on each front fender of the Roadster, indicates the vehicle’s status as a part of the “F” special vehicle program within Lexus that falls outside the normal engineering and development process.
Compared to the coupe concept that was introduced last year, the LF-A Roadster features a number of design differences including reshaped headlights, a new front fascia, modified side skirts and air intakes, and a somewhat reshaped trunk. The LF-A Roadster is still based on the same lightweight carbon-fiber and aluminum body used for the LF-A coupe, which maintains strength and rigidity even in topless form. Like its coupe sibling, the LF-A Roadster is also powered by a high-revving 5 liter V10 engine capable of more than 500 horsepower and speeds greater than 200 mph. It is mounted in front of the passenger compartment but behind the front-axle centerline in what engineers refer to as a front-mid configuration controlled by paddle shifters. The LF-A Roadster stands just 48 inches tall, but the Roadster configuration adds a speed adaptive rear wing. The rear is also marked by a pair of wrap-around, arrowhead-shaped taillights that bracket a pair of large grilles. These grilles vent the heated air from the car’s two rear-mounted radiators into the LF-A Roadster’s aerodynamic wake. The radiators are fed cool air by two large intake ducts mounted just above the rear wheel wells.
While there’s still no definitive sign of a production version of a Lexus LF-A supercar, admirers can only hope that Lexus sees the need to having a high performance, limited production supercar in the company stable.

Renewal of a Great Lamborghini Tradition
Designed by Luc Donckerwolke, Head of Lamborghini Design, the “Concept S” is his extreme interpretation of an “open car”. Drawing inspiration from classic single-seater racing cars of the past, the 500 horsepower roadster is expected to debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

18-02-2005
At the Geneva Motor Show, the House of the Raging Bull will present a new design study that renews a great Lamborghini tradition.
Like the 350 GTS and the Miura Roadster before it, the Lamborghini “Concept S” is a unique car, an extreme and spectacular expression of the Lamborghini brand.
Created at the Centro Stile Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese by Luc Donckerwolke, Head of Lamborghini Design, the “Concept S” is his extreme interpretation of an „open car”. Using the Gallardo as a basis, Donckerwolke drew inspiration from the classic single-seater racing cars of the past to create this latest design study.
The classic single-seaters did not have a traditional windscreen, but utilised the so-called „saute-vent” (in French: a sudden change in the wind) in order to direct air over the head of the driver - and so does the “Concept S”. These devices divide the cabin into two distinct compartments, giving the car an aggressive and futuristic look and also creating a space between them that acts as an additional air inlet for the powerful engine, which is positioned behind the seats.
An electronically controlled, retractable central rear view mirror allows the driver - when required - to see what is happening behind the car.
The aerodynamics of the “Concept S” have been optimised thanks to front and rear spoilers and a large rear diffuser.
